This is another version of a connector, not so universal like the 34-pin one, but with a tap on the green LED, that can be used for the transmission and reception of infrared remote control signals.
It's easier to install and less mechanical work.

Note that it lacks USB and JTAG, so this is not for hardware developers. The 34-pin universal connector may be used to include this functionality if desired.

HOW-TO implant it:

  • Cut an indent in the case. The dimensions are here:
It should look like this:
  • Prepare the pins of the header:
    Pins 1,2,3,4: leave alone
    Pin 5: bend it or cut it off
    Pin 6: bend to the left
    Pin 7,8: bend to the right
    Pin 9,10: bend to the left
This is how it will look like:
  • Shorten the pins a bit.
  • Solder wires to the pins.
  • Look at the top side for your orientation:
  • Connector: Solder the header with its first four pins to J2, the serial port. See AddASerialPort. The four pins should give enough mechanical stability for normal use.
  • Put a piece of wire into position 5 to key the header and to prevent yourself from plugging in a connector in wrong direction.
  • Green LED: Solder the wire from pin 10 to the connector to the right side of R53:
  • I²C: Solder the wires from pin 7 and 8 to the pins 6 (the upper one in the photo) and 5 (the lower one) of the IC X1205:
  • +5V: Solder the wire from pin 6 to the right side of FB4:
  • Look at the back side:
  • CTS2: Solder the wire from pin 9 to the left side of R142. (Later I removed R142 here, because it has only 18 ohms. If an external circuit needs to pull the trace to ground, it costs you almost 200mA!)
  • Close the case gently :-)
  • You might want to attach the LIRC-Adapter then :-))
