NSLU2-Linux

Peter, a very happy user from germany.

  • 1 Slug; 3.18 Beta; with Hitachi 160 GB (no case :-) and noname ide/usb adapter cable
  • apache
  • php
  • mysql
  • cups
  • perl
  • plus some utilities like bash, joe, mc

I bought the NSLU2 to replace a file server in my home office wich was running 24/7. The old server consumed something like 150 watt, the slug with its harddisk not more then 15 watts. The NSLU2 will pay for itself within a few month alone from power savings. Not to mention noise and heat.

We do web developement in PHP, and it is very welcome to be able to do local tests with a linux system. We use Xampp for everyday work, but we are now using the NSLU2 more an more as it is so far 100 % reliable and a lot faster than one might think.

Next thing to install is a procedure to use wget to backup some of our web site to the local harddisk.

I am now fighting with cyrus, which should give a nice IMAP mail server. May be I am expecting to much, so I will set up the next NSLU2!
