So, you've come to my profile page: Welcome!

I'm sorry, you won't find no personal profile here. I am thinking about using this as a scratch page for my personal experiences with my NSLU2. Well let me state the 'profile' of my SLUG then, it may be if some value to you.

SLUG Profile

20060906

My brand new NSLU2 just arrived with firmware V2.3R63. After fiddling a while, I am using it currently as follows:

    • V2.3R63-uNSLUng-6.8-beta
  • USB1?
    • Sweex USB hub (4-ports)
      1. HP PSC750? all in 1 printer/scanner
      2. USB webcam Lifetec LT9388?
      3. USB Memory stick 1Gb (incidentally)
      4. empty
  • USB2?
    • Raidsonic ICYBOX IB-351STUS-B
    • Western Digital Caviar WD2500YD?, 250Gb
  • Uses
    • File Server

20061017

Had big trouble while installing packages, messed up the installation big time. Left the slug for a while and used it only under Linux (Knoppix). Seemed to work for a while, but things as user rights to several directories were making me crazy. The explore2fs program, ext2ifs driver and the ext2/reiser pluging of Total Commander helped me out for a while. Tonight, I found the solution why the Sercomm util didn't work: it needs to run with admin rights. It just finished uploading and said it was succesful, a little step closer to the solution...

edit: Only ports 445 and 6789 seem visible. Still no webinterface, no SSH nor telnet...

20061112, Hiphip, Hurray!

Me very (*VERY*) happy!! Unslinging has worked, al files still there. This is sweet.. Now, be a lot more cautious when changing things ...

OK, next steps:

20061126 Samba properly configured

It seemed I had forgotten one step in the upgrade method of Samba. I got an error on one of the clients on the network (win2k): "Duplicate hostname found". It seems that after the upgrade the old smb-settings are overwritten. Today I followed the directions of the Alternate Update Method (#1) and all seems to work fine again ...!

Now I'm no longer 'stuck', but passed step 1!! The rest of the steps will have 2 wait 4 a while. Enjoy this sweet victory for a while (or while it lasts ... ;))

2007-20 Simple Home Website

Used SimpleHomeWebsite to create a ... Simple Home Website. Considered Apache to use PHP/MySQL?, but I settle for static content for the moment.
