Xmail works (both POP and SMTP), but is currently not generating any logs with BusyBox v0.60.4.

xmail is a fully featured mail server. It is not a mail client.

To install xmail do the following: 

  ipkg install xmail

If you get an error about a missing syslogd dependency then do the following: 

  ipkg -force-depends install xmail

See the beginners instructions to start with. http://www.ubaight.com/xmail/BeginnersGuide.html These instructions are generic Linux so the pathnames for binaries etc are wrong. Use ipkg files xmail to see what got installed where.

xmail data is stored in /opt/var/MailRoot?

Xmail consumes a lot of memory (for an NSLU2) - approximately 19MB. So far this hasn't seemed to impact my usage of the machine for squid, samba etc, but it may do on your system.

If you've got a stock NSLU2 and haven't installed syslogd-ng or any other syslog replacement (e.g. new busybox) and xmail works and is generating logs, please add a note to this wiki page to this effect. If xmail works but no logs are being generated them (again) please update this page. Once we know for certain if the standard unslung syslogd works we can change the dependency as appropriate.
