Installing on Debian (Debian installation using the Debian-installer)This is based on the latest Debian-installer release which includes Linux Kernel version 2.6.18. As of kernel version 2.6.18 the PVR USB2? drivers are maintained as part of the kernel, which means you no longer have to compile the drivers as separate modules from the kernel source. Step one is to build a debian kernel from source. Follow the instructions at http://www.nslu2-linux.org/wiki/Debian/BuildImage. For where to get the source just follow the section "Source code from a released Debian kernel" Stop when you have the *.deb kernel file(s). Step two is to install the new kernel *.deb file(s). dpkg -i linux-image-2.6.18-3-ixp4xx_2.6.18-6_arm.deb Step three is to extract and install the PVR firwmare. See Section 5 at http://www.nslu2-linux.org/wiki/DebianSlug/InstallWinTVPVRUSB2 or most recent instructions at http://www.isely.net/pvrusb2/setup.html#Firmware At this point everything should be working! Test with 'cat /dev/video0 > /tmp/video.mpeg' Note : There is no reason to touch/install Hotplug or any of the Hotplug scripts. Debian installs these as part of its' default installation. This is a general HowTo document on Installing the Hauppauge WinTV? PVR USB2? on the Slug A few documents have been created for the different variants of Linux on the NSLU2.
